Asiana Airlines Establishes Alliance Partnership with Continental Airlines


Asiana Airlines (CEO: Young-Doo Yoon) and Continental Airlines (5th largest airliner), will form a new alliance partnership effective from December 15th of this year. The code share operations between the two airlines will cover 5 international routes and 13 domestic routes inside the United States of America.

President Young-Doo Yoon of Asiana Airlines and President Lawrence W. Kellner of Continental Airlines, held a signing ceremony at New York’s Westin Hotel at 15:30pm (local time) on the 27th of October to form an alliance partnership.

President Young-Doo Yoon, CEO of Asiana Airlines, commented, “I would like to congratulate Continental Airlines’ official entry into the Star Alliance network and their alliance partnership with Asiana. Asiana has now gained an opportunity to extend our network in the U.S and Continental has gained the benefit of experiencing the world class services that Asiana is famous for. We will continue in improving, expanding and developing our partnership with Continental Airlines in providing high-end quality airline services.”

With the code share partnership between the two airlines, Asiana now has the opportunity to expand its U.S. domestic network to destinations such as Houston, Cleveland, Newark, and Anchorage where no direct flights were available. It is also anticipated that the passengers from both airlines can now conveniently use the 81 routes of Asiana and 132 routes of Continental will make travel more convenient for passengers. Herby Asiana Airlines code sharing network has increased to 21 airlines, 14 countries, 212 routes and 1,768 weekly flights.

Continental Airlines officially withdraw from the Sky Team Alliance on the 25th of October and joined the world’s largest airline alliance “Star Alliance” on the 27th of October. Along with Asiana’s code share partnership, Continental Airlines intends to strengthen and expand it’s partnership with other Star Alliance member carriers.

With Continental Airlines official entry into the Star Alliance network, Star Alliance now has 25 member carriers, operates to 171 countries, has 1,071 routes, and operates 19,500 daily flights. With Continental Airlines joining Star Alliance, Star Alliance still holds the reputation of being the world’s largest and best airline alliance.

Continental Airlines has 343 air carriers, operates to 262 cities and has a yearly sales record of 15.2 billion dollars (2008 standard).
