The Buddhist thangkas preserved in Mongolia’s museums explode with colour and animated vitality. Flourishing under the patronage of the Khans and enduring the suppression of the soviets, these works are now recognised by UNESCO as invaluable pieces of world heritage. Zara Fleming discusses the history, evolution and recent revival of this rich tradition of Buddhist iconography.

'Lost and Last Shangri Las' - a fascinating talk about the contemporary societies of Tibet and Bhutan focusing on the idea of the attainment of happiness, the elusive ‘Shangri La’ of the Western imagination. Dibyesh Anand and Nitasha Kaul provide expert insights on the varied political, social and cultural influences the 20th century has brought to bear on these neighboring Himalayan societies.
