Japan and the Current Economic Crisis, Ian de Stains, Director of BCCJ

Ian de Stains, the experienced and long-term Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan will update members on the situation in Tokyo and assess the longer term effects of the current crisis.

This will be of interest not only to British Companies seeking to trade in Japan but also Japanese companies here. Japan has had three Prime Ministers in the past three years, the current one with the lowest popularity rating ever.

A general election must be held within the year and there is heated debate over an increased rate of consumption tax. What’s the BCCJ view of the current situation? Following Ian’s talk there will be time for open questions.

Those who have particular issues or topics to discuss with Ian de Stains, particularly those relating to The British Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo, are invited to remain for a workshop or one to one session after the main talk and discussion.

Before that he was a communications consultant, with Yorkshire Television from 1968-1969, with the BBC in London until 1976, and in Japan between 76 and 80.
